Designed 13th District site

This is also late, but I’m posting it. I helped to design the site for Grady’s Academy this year. The theme was Hunger Games, get it? Once again, I was web wrangler and the students produced the content. Good stuff for a group of high schoolers thrown together on campus for a week.

Tybee Island: Community collaborates to curb coastal erosion
Dan Hernandez set out to make a difference and invited others to join. The Savannah resident has watched parts of Tybee Island erode slowly over the years, particularly the six-mile McQueen’s Island Trail, which offers high-tide protection to U.S. Highway 80 that links Tybee to Savannah. He heard the voices of discontent during the past…

Sapelo Island: Residents fight back to preserve culture
On Sunday mornings, the Sapelo Island ferry pulls up to the dock and lets off a stream of residents decked in dresses, hats, and suits. Shaking hands and trading smiles, the dozen or so pile into a church bus that arrives just for them. They’re heading to St. Luke Baptist Church for a morning of…

Vienna and stopping at Shonbrunn

You can see the touristy bits of Vienna in one day. I didn’t get to see much else, but it was a nice brief visit. The train to and the bus back were part of the journey, and I enjoyed seeing the Czech Republic and Austria countrysides. My favorites in Vienna? The Hapsburg Palace and…

Parisian Prayers: Notre Dame on a Sunday
I didn’t think about the fact that it was Sunday when I started out to the Louvre in the morning. When I passed the Notre Dame and saw a long line going inside, I still didn’t realize a service was going on. But when I walked inside, my breath caught in my throat. It felt…

Paris thoughts: City of the Seine
Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love water. Well, folks, Paris is certainly a river town. Mostly anything and everything you need to see (especially for your first two-day trip) is along the river, and it’s a nice walk. I now understand why everyone wears scarves all the time … quite windy,…

One year anniversary of HMJ decision
The end of the semester is nigh. And it’s strange. Around this time last year, I took the leap and told my bosses that I would pursue grad school full-time in the fall. Now I’ve completed a year! And I believe I’ve come a long way in getting back on track with the professional journalism…
