Carolyn Crist

Here it begins. I’m in the first Health and Medical Journalism program class, and I’m excited about taking a narrative journalism class as well with Professor Valerie Boyd, who I didn’t get to take a class with during undergrad.

I’m most excited to get the hands-on experience, the freelance clips, and the life of a journalist again. Last semester was still not a good time for my confidence and guilt from leaving the newsroom, but I’m determined to make that different this time. 

I’m also enjoying the intersections. Already Pat has mentioned Katherine Boo’s “Behind the Beautiful Forevers,” which we’re going to read in Boyd’s class. Digging into the Reno project should also be ripe for opportunity related to narrative storytelling.
